Remaining Fat Is Healthier Than Weight Loss?
Jennifer on April 13th, 2006 | File Under Questionable Weight Loss Strategies -What a crazy week! I haven’t had time to do much this week, but the Bowflex did get put together last weekend and so my workout days this week are Tuesday, Thursday (today), and Friday. I worked out Tuesday and it felt wonderful! I had forgotten what resistance/weight training felt like! I can’t wait to get in there and workout today. I would rather workout in the morning after getting up since we burn more fat during that time - 12% more fat, actually - but I will take what I can get right now. Next week, I am changing my workout days to MWF and aiming for morning instead of evening.
Now on to real weight loss news…
I found a curious story about how one man thinks remaining fat is healthier than weight loss? While the author does have some good (and valid) points, I think he’s just making excuses for himself. I’m sorry if that sounds harsh, but, really, remaining overweight is NOT healthier than losing weight. While he does include studies that support his “theory” (and that’s all that it is), he didn’t bother to post the numerous studies that show how dangerous and damaging being overweight really is. Diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular problems, circulation problems, breathing problems, and numerous other illnesses and diseases are not healthier than losing weight. Sorry.
Now, I do agree with him that yo-yo dieting is dangerous…absolutely! However, lifestyle changes are NOT dangerous. Changing just one thing at a time in order to gain better health AND lose weight is NOT dangerous. Performing just 30 minutes of physical activity per day (walking, jogging, cleaning house, whatever) is NOT dangerous and will lead to weight loss if no medical conditions are present (for example, a thyroid problem).
I hope no one takes this person’s post seriously because it’s just a “theory” and a dangerous one at that.
